Ergobaby Metro 3 vs Joolz Aer²

Both are newborn-ready out of the box without a separate bassinet purchase - the choice comes down to weight, recline depth and price.

Overview

The Metro 3 and Aer² take a similar approach to newborns: each has a built-in setup (Ergobaby's Newborn Nest, Joolz's baby net) rather than requiring a separate bassinet or car seat. From there, they diverge on weight and recline.

Fold and portability

Folded, the Metro 3 measures roughly 22 × 17.3 × 9.1 in against the Aer²'s 20.9 × 17.3 × 9.2 in - close in footprint, though the Aer² is close to 3 lb lighter to carry.

Comfort and ride

The Aer²'s recline goes all the way to fully flat, while the Metro 3's near-flat recline stops short of that. The Aer² also has a confirmed 17.6 lb basket; the Metro 3's basket capacity wasn't confirmed in its current US listing.

Newborn use

Integrated Newborn Nest mode is required for newborn use. Follow the manual. The Aer² takes a similar built-in approach: Current US listing includes a baby net for newborn use. Use the required newborn configuration; older versions may differ.

Price

The Metro 3 is the more affordable of the two at around $399, roughly $150 less than the Aer² at around $549.

Which one should you buy?

Choose the Ergobaby Metro 3 if you want newborn-ready comfort at a lower price and don't mind carrying a bit more weight.

Choose the Joolz Aer² if a fully flat recline and lighter carry weight are worth the extra cost.
