Best Bugaboo Butterfly Alternatives: Cheaper, Lighter & Smaller

The Bugaboo Butterfly 2 Plus is one of the most popular travel strollers in the US for good reason. It reclines fully flat, works from birth, has all-wheel suspension and folds to 17.6 × 9.6 × 21.8 in. But at about $579 and 16 lb, it isn’t the right answer for everyone.
Here are the alternatives we’d consider, depending on what you want to improve.

If you want lighter: Joolz Aer²
The Joolz Aer² matches the Butterfly on the big things - full-flat recline, from-birth use with an included baby net, all-wheel suspension, a 17.6 lb basket - and weighs 14.3 lb. If you want more comfort for a newborn: UPPAbaby Minu V3
The UPPAbaby Minu V3 has a carriage mode for newborns, all-wheel suspension and a 20 lb basket. It’s about the same weight (16.7 lb) and a bit cheaper, and it’s the better pick if the stroller doubles as your everyday city stroller.
If you want a lower price with a lie-flat seat: Silver Cross Clic
The Silver Cross Clic reclines to full lie-flat from birth, carries children up to 55 lb and weighs 13.9 lb - for about $400. We couldn’t confirm suspension from the manufacturer’s listing.
If you want the best value: Mompush Nexis
At around $200, the Mompush Nexis costs about a third of the Butterfly. It still offers near-flat recline, all-wheel suspension, from-birth use and a lighter 11.5 lb frame. Expect simpler fabrics and less brand support.
If you want the smallest fold: CYBEX Libelle
If overhead-bin fit is the priority, the CYBEX Libelle folds to 12.6 × 7.8 × 18.9 in and fits the carry-on box of every airline we track. The catches: its seat starts at 6 months and it needs two hands to fold.
When to just buy the Butterfly
